KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones announced they’ve re-signed veteran infielder Jake Blackwood to a contract for the 2016 season.

Blackwood, a 30-year-old Kansas City native, batted .302 with 119 hits, including 22 doubles and 11 home runs, along with 64 RBIs and 59 runs scored in 98 games for the T-Bones in 2015. After starting the season as a third baseman, Blackwood played the majority of 2015 at first base, where he committed only three errors in 505 chances. Blackwood, who’s played professionally for 10 seasons, reached several career milestones during 2015 including his 1,000th hit and 100th home run. He’ll enter the 2016 season needing four runs to reach 500 in his career, and 31 RBIs away from 600.

The then-Florida Marlins selected Blackwood in the 16th round of the 2006 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Maple Woods Community College. He is a career .272 hitter with 108 homers and 569 RBIs in 1,028 games. Blackwood is in his second stint with Kansas City. He was one of the top players for the T-Bones during 2009-10, when the club still played in the Northern League. During those two seasons, Blackwood batted .315 with 210 hits, 124 RBIs and 114 runs scored in 162 games. He was the Northern League MVP in 2010 after leading the league in home runs (31) and RBIs (86), and finishing third with a .331 batting average.

Blackwood is the first 2015 T-Bones player signed for 2016.
