T-Bones Hammer Thunderheads in Opener

AMARILLO, Texas – The Kansas City T-Bones scored five runs in back to back innings, to win, 10-8, against Amarillo, Monday evening.

Amarillo scored the opening run in the bottom of the first inning, off Kansas City starting pitcher Drew Gay to take an early 1-0 lead. Juan Martinez drove in Gerardo Valentine with a one-out single.

The T-Bones down 1-0, scored five third inning runs to take a 5-1 lead off Amarillo starter Leondy Perez (4-1). Kyle Robinson drove in Nate Tenbrink and Jake Blackwood with a double, and Vladimir Frias tripled to score Adam Bailey and Robinson. Brian Erie capped the scoring with an RBI single, which scored Frias.

The Thunderheards wouldn't back down though, as they rebounded with a five run inning of their own, in the bottom of the third inning, to take a 6-5 lead. Amarillo ripped off five consecutive two-out RBI hits against Gay.

The T-Bones responded again, with yet another five-run inning, that came in the fourth. Starlin Rodriguez and Nate Tenbrink ripped back to back doubles to start the inning, and the rest was history, as the T-Bones jumped out to a 10-6 lead.

The T-Bones turned yet again to the bullpen early, and they responded. Josh Tols pitched two and two thirds scoreless innings and Jared Messer pitched two scoreless innings. Fernando Hernandez allowed a solo home run in the ninth inning to Dexter Kiersted, but held, for the 10-8 win.

The T-Bones pounded out 14 hits, and Nate Tenbrink led the way with three hits, two of which were doubles.

The T-Bones (44-42) continue the three-game road-trip against Amarillo (41-46) Tuesday night at 7:05pm and can be heard online at Tbonesbaseball.com or 1660 AM locally in Kansas City.
