T-Bones Drop Regular Season Finale, 13-5; Playoffs Start Tuesday

09/06/2004 1:37 PM - T-Bones Drop Regular Season Finale, 13-4; Playoffs Start Tuesday

A seven-run sixth inning for the Gary Southshore RailCats doomed the Kansas City T-Bones, who could muster only five runs against five RailCat pitchers in a 13-5 loss in front of 2,856 in Gary, IN.

Gary led 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth when they sent twelve men to the plate against two T-Bones relievers. KU product Brandon O’Neal drove in the first two runs of the inning with a two-run triple, and after a Rickey Clinton single plated O’Neal, Pete DeYoung singled in two runs to make it 9-4. Juan Camacho closed out the scoring in the frame for Gary with a single to center to give Gary an 11-2 lead.

Kansas City trailed by 2-1 and 4-2, the first two T-Bones runs coming by way of a Mike Hass single and a bases-loaded walk to Hiroshi Fujimoto against starter Tony O’Donnell (W, 4-11).

Gary got on the board with two unearned runs in the first, with an error on a Hipolito Martinez pop-up by third baseman Hiroshi Fujimoto allowing a run to score. Martinez came in to score on a Darin Kinsolving single to center against T-Bones starter Jon McDonald (L, 9-8).

Kansas City got its fourth run of the game on Eddie Pearson’s 30th homer of the season, one of the lone bright spots of the game for the T-Bones.

The T-Bones will now move on to Schaumburg for the South Division playoffs, starting Tuesday at 7:05 pm at Alexian Field. The playoffs will all be broadcast live on All Comedy Radio KCKN 1340 as well as www.tbonesbaseball.com.
