RailCats Rout T-Bones 13-4

09/05/2004 1:35 PM - RailCats Rout T-Bones 13-4; Gary Scores 11 in Final Three At-Bats

In spite of two home runs by Mike Brown and Mike Hass' first professional home run, the Kansas City T-Bones couldn't overcome Darin Kinsolving's five RBI and Scott Samuels' three-run homer as the Gary-Southshore RailCats routed the Kansas City T-Bones, 13-4, at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, IN.

Gary took the lead in the sixth inning, plating five runs against a combination of starter Jonathan Krysa and relievers Kevin Sprague (L, 0-1) and John Howerton. Krysa walked the leadoff man before leaving the game, and Sprague faced three men without retiring any. The big blow against Sprague was a three-run triple to center by Darin Kinsolving. After Sprague left the game, Howerton allowed a two-run homer to third baseman Juan Camacho to give Gary a 7-4 cushion.

The RailCats would score three in the eighth against reliever Ryan Hader, with a triple by Hipolito Martinez scoring two runs, and three in the ninth against Derek Forbes, who surrendered Samuels' home run.

Dan Soria (W, 6-6) worked six innings for Gary, allowing single runs in the third through sixth innings, three coming on two solo homers by Mike Brown and Hass' long ball, and one on Ray Brown's run-scoring double to right.

Notes: The T-Bones have homered seven times in the last two games... Phil Thompson batted leadoff for the T-Bones for the first time this season, and Rick Prieto sat for the first time this year... Matt Ceriani played outfield for the first time this season... Krysa threw just 83 pitches in his 5+ innings.
