Explorers sweep T-Bones

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones dropped their fifth consecutive game Thursday night, 3-1, against Sioux City at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Sioux City got the scoring started in the first inning, when Matty Johnson raced around the bases with a leadoff triple against newly aquired starting pitcher Bobby Doran.Two batters later, Rene Tosoni hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Johnson from third to take a 1-0 lead. The Explorers added another run in the second inning, extending their lead to 2-0 when Tim Colwell scored on an RBI groundout from catcher Matt Koch.

Down 2-0, T-Bones first-baseman Joe Rapp blasted a solo homerun to left-centerfield cutting the deficit 2-1 off Sioux City starter John Straka. The homerun was the T-Bones first in 2015.

The Explorers added an insurance run in the fifth inning, when third baseman Jake Blackwood was called for defensive interference that allowed Noah Perio to score from third base to give Sioux City a 3-1 lead.

Bobby Doran (0-1) took the loss in his T-Bones debut, in which he allowed two runs on just three hits. Doran finished the game with four strikeouts.

The T-Bones (1-5) hit the road, and travel east to Gary, Ind. to take part in a three-game series against the RailCats (4-4) starting Friday at 7:10pm.
