KANSAS CITY, Kan. – After rain postponed Saturday night’s game, the Lincoln Saltdogs put a damper on the Memorial Day weekend for the Kansas City T-Bones with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday night, 7-5 and 7-3, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In game two, Kansas City’s starting pitcher Casey Barnes performed well, striking out six batters in five innings. With the six strikeouts, Barnes now has 301 in his career. He left the game after 75 total pitches and just one earned run, which came in the first inning on a solo home run from Saltdogs right fielder Brian Joynt.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning of the seven-inning contest, Kansas City appeared to take a commanding lead. Second baseman Ryan Cavan started off the inning with a short blooper just over the head of Lincoln shortstop Mike Gilmartin. Nate Tenbrink then lined a triple to the wall in deep right-center field, scoring Cavan from first. With a runner on third, Jake Blackwood singled up the middle and scored Tenbrink, bringing the score to 3-1.

The Saltdogs came back in the top of the seventh, though, plating six runs against T-Bones closer Kris Regas, who allowed four hits and walked three. The inning included a two-RBI triple by Joynt, who ended the night with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.

In the first game, Kansas City spotted the Saltdogs seven runs in the first two innings before putting together a four-run fifth inning. It was too little, too late, though, as Zach Arneson shut down Kansas City in the seventh.

The T-Bones (1-2) are off Monday before beginning a three-game series against Sioux City on Tuesday night at 7:05. Tickets for all three games are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
