Two Make Nine for Pearson, T-Bones in 2-1 Win

09/01/2004 1:20 PM - Two Make Nine for Pearson, T-Bones in 2-1 Win

Eddie Pearson homered in the ninth and eleventh innings to give Kansas City their ninth win in a row, a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs in front of 4,650 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Pitchers Alex Carbajal of Lincoln and T-Bone starter Jonathan Krysa matched zeroes until the top of the eighth inning, when Krysa surrendered a solo shot to P.J. Rose on the first pitch of the inning. Krysa, who had breezed through the first seven innings, allowed just that home run while battling through the eighth and ninth.

Carbajal departed after the seventh inning, giving way to reliever Byron Embry. Embry worked a scoreless eighth, but Pearson drove a 1-0 fastball from Embry over the left field fence to tie the game at 1. It remained that way until Pearson hit the first pitch from lefty reliever Max Tremblay (L, 1-2) over the right-center field fence to give the Cardiac Kids a 2-1 win.

Reliever David Viane (W, 2-3), who earned his first win of the season on Sunday, picked up his second here, working two innings of scoreless relief.

The game was filled with record-setting and tying performances. Jonathan Krysa tied the Northern League record for starts in a season with his first pitch, making his 23rd start, and Krysa worked 9.0 IP to set a new league mark for innings in a season with 160.1 IP. As well, Rick Prieto tripled in the eighth inning against Embry to tie the league record for a season at 10.

For the T-Bones, this was their third win in the last at-bat in the last six games, and second with a walk-off homer in that time. Lincoln lost for the first time this season when leading after eight innings.

Notes: Ray Brown's hitting streak ended at a season-high 17 games, as he went 0-5 in the contest.
