KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones announced they have signed rookie Alex Marquez to a contract for the 2015 season.

Marquez, 22 (12-10-92), is a 5-foot-11 and 190-pound catcher from Maunabo, Puerto Rico. He played in 13 games in 2014 with Auburn, the Washington Nationals’ low-A club, and batted .154 with four hits and scored two runs. Marquez is a career .173 hitter with 48 hits, 48 walks, and 23 RBIs. Defensively, Marquez has a .986 fielding percentage, catching in 104 games. He has thrown out 42 runners for a 24% caught stealing percentage.

“Alex is a solid defender who will compete for a spot in spring training,” said T-Bones manager John Massarelli.

Marquez has spent the majority of his professional career in the Kansas City Royals’ organization. The Royals selected Marquez in the 29th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft at the age of 17 out of Alfonso Casta Martinez High School. In four minor-league seasons with the Royals, Marquez reached single-A Lexington in 2013.
