T-Bones Sweep Sioux City, Take First

08/29/2004 1:09 PM - With a dramatic, come-from-behind win in the first game of the doubleheader and a stellar 10-K performance from Matt McClellan in the second game of the twin bill, the Kansas City T-Bones swept the Sioux City Explorers, 5-4 and 4-2.

The first game was capped by a Ray Brown single to deep left-center, which scored Rick Prieto. Prieto had reached base on a game-tying double in the bottom of the ninth inning which scored pinch runner Mike Hass.

In the second contest, McClellan and the T-Bones found a 2-0 hole in the top of the first when Casey Baker scored on a Desi Wilson single to right and Wilson scored on a Marcel Longmire double to left-center. But McClellan set down the X's with relatively little difficulty the rest of the way, fanning nine in the final six innings along the way to a 4-2 win.

Sioux City set the stage for the T-Bones comeback in the first game with a single run in the top of the ninth against reliever John Howerton (3-2). Wilson, who had singled and stolen second, scored on a Matt Howe single to center. Sioux City and the T-Bones had been nip and tuck throughout the game, with Sioux City leading 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3.

The second one saw the T-Bones go for four in the third inning, with Matt Ceriani's solo homer starting things off. Ray Brown and Eddie Pearson drove in runs with singles and Cody Nowlin capped the scoring with a sac fly.

Notes: Prieto left the game in the sixth inning of game 2 after jamming his hand into third base trying to stretch a double into a triple... Ceriani's homer was his sixth of the season... McClellan's 10 K's was his season high and was accomplished with 104 pitches... Wilson's homer in Game 1 was his fourth of the season.
