08/26/2004 1:01 PM - KANSAS CITY - Mike Brown hammered an 0-1 offering over the left-field fence to cap off a three-run, ninth inning rally as the T-Bones ambushed Sioux City, 8-7, Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. It was the fourth consecutive win for Kansas City, which improved to 22-17, 42-45, on the year.

Trailing 7-5 in the ninth inning, Chad Hill got things going with a single to center field off of Explorers’ closer Sean Kramer (1-3). After a strikeout and a pop out, Cody Nowlin walked to set the stage for Brown, who answered with his biggest hit as a member of the T-Bones: a three-run game-winner; his eighth homer of the season. It was Kansas City second come-from-behind victory of the year.

John Howerton (1-3) picked up the win with two scoreless innings in relief of starter Jonathan Krysa, who allowed seven runs, five earned, in seven innings.

Lost in the dramatics, was a multiple-home run performance by Ray Brown. Brown got Kansas City on the board with a two-out solo shot in the first and added a two-run homer in the seventh. It was his first multiple-home run game of the year and the team’s first since Eddie Pearson hit three against Joliet on August 6.

The Explorers took control early with a five-run first inning – highlighted by a grand slam from right fielder Bobby Brown. Casey Baker led off the game with a home run to right field and Brown’s drive over the left field fence gave the Explorers an early 5-0 lead.

But the T-Bones came back with a pair of runs in the home half thanks to back-to-back home runs by Brown and Pearson. Pearson’s blast to right field was his league-leading 26th round-tripper on the season.

Nowlin inched the T-Bones closer with a sacrifice fly to center field in the fifth inning that made the score 5-3. Krysa settled down and retired the side in order in the second, third, and sixth innings before running into trouble in the seventh. Baker led off the inning with a single, his third hit of the night, and came all the way around to score on a throwing error by Krysa. Marcel Longmire singled home Todd Brock to make it 7-3. But Kansas City got both runs back in the home half on Brown’s 18th round-tripper of the year – a drive over the left-field fence – that made it 7-5.

The T-Bones will continue their series against the Explorers Friday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

Game Notes: Sioux City’s five runs were the most scored by any team in the first inning against the T-Bones all season… When Brown and Pearson went back-to-back in the first inning, it was the first time the T-Bones had back-to-back home runs from any combination of players this season… Pearson was intentionally walked in the fifth inning. It was his 15th intentional walk of the season – a Northern League record.
