KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kansas City allowed three runs in the second inning Monday night and never recovered, falling 6-1 to St. Paul at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Jake Taylor got things started for the Saints. After retiring the first four batters he faced, Kansas City starter Casey Barnes allowed singles to Angelo Songco and Evan Bigley before Taylor launched a home run to the St. Paul bullpen in left field, Taylor’s fifth homer of the season. St. Paul homered again in the third, a solo shot by Songco, pushing the St. Paul advantage to 4-0.

Kansas City finally got on the board in the fifth. Robby Kuzdale singled and then scored when T.J. Mittelstaedt laced a double down the right field line, cutting the St. Paul lead to 4-1. Mittelstaedt was thrown out at third trying for a triple, however, effectively ending the Kansas City threat.

The Saints added single runs in the eighth and ninth on their way to a 6-1 victory. St. Paul starter Nick Barnese (6-6) picked up the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out eight over 7 innings.

Barnes (2-3), who gave up seven hits and four runs, struck out seven and didn’t walk any in 6 2/3 innings.

With the loss, the T-Bones fall to 36-38 on the season, while the Saints move to 42-31. Kansas City continues its four-game series with St. Paul on Tuesday night at 7:05. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
