T-Bones Fall 9-8 in 17

08/20/2004 11:26 AM - LINCOLN, Neb. - In a team-record game, both by time and innings, the Kansas City T-Bones fell to the Lincoln Saltdogs, 9-8, when a wild pitch by David Viane allowed Bryan Warner to score in the seventeenth inning at Haymarket Park Friday night.

T-Bones were up 8-4 after the top of the fifth. At that point in the game, Eddie Pearson, Rick Prieto and Jack Jones had all homered, as had Saltdogs Josh Patton and Albenis Machado. Lincoln chipped away at the Kansas City lead with a solo shot by Patton in the fifth against starter Greg Bicknell, his second of the game, to make it 8-5.

It remained that way until the bottom of the ninth, when, with two outs and two on, Charles Peterson smacked his 12th homer of the season to tie the ball game against T-Bones reliever Derek Forbes.

The ballgame remained deadlocked until the seventeenth due to some stellar relief work from both bullpens. T-Bones lefty Kevin Sprague worked six innings of hitless relief to keep the Saltdogs in check, but the T-Bones, who loaded the bases in the fifteenth with none out, couldn't muster any runs against relievers Byron Embry, George Huguet, and winning pitcher Adam Lesko.

The T-Bones and Saltdogs will meet Saturday night at 7:05. Jonathan Krysa will take the hill for the T-Bones (8-7, 3.13) vs Saltdog lefty Alex Carbajal (1-2, 5.14). The game will be broadcast live on All Comedy Radio 1340 and www.tbonesbaseball.com.

Game Notes: Prieto extended his hitting streak to twelve with his second-inning homer, when he also tied the league run record... Pearson's homer was his 25th of the season... Patton's two homers give him 13 on the season, four of which have come against Kansas City... Lincoln has hit 16 homers against the T-Bones in nine games, and 48 in its other 74... Ray Brown was ejected from the game in the twelfth inning for arguing balls and strikes.
