Seven-Tenth Split for Bicknell, T-Bones in 5-3 Win

08/15/2004 11:04 AM - WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Greg Bicknell worked seven innings in earning his tenth win of the season, scattering ten hits while allowing three runs, and Eddie Pearson hit a three-run homer as the Kansas City T-Bones beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-3 in front of 7,412 at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba Sunday afternoon.

The T-Bones started off the scoring in the top of the first when Rick Prieto hammered his league-leading ninth triple down the right-field line. Chad Hill singled in Prieto and the T-Bones led 1-0.

Kansas City increased their lead to 4-0 against starter T.J. Stanton (5-4) in the third when Pearson's league-leading 23rd homer of the season scored Prieto and Ray Brown, who had both walked.

In the fourth, Winnipeg scored two runs without hitting the ball hard, loading the bases for T.J. Soto, who hit a sac fly to right, and getting another run on a Blair Barbier fielder's choice.

The seventh inning saw Winnipeg close the gap to 4-3, with Harry Berrios' third hit of the ballgame scoring Amaury Garcia, who had been hit by a pitch. Garcia left the ballgame after being plunked in the wrist by T-Bones starter Bicknell.

Bicknell would leave the ballgame after surrendering a leadoff single to Greg Morrison to lead off the eighth, but reliever John Howerton got T.J. Soto to fly to right and induced the third double play of the game, a 6-4-3 effort off the bat of Blair Barbier. Kansas City plated an insurance run, scoring Phil Thompson on Mike Hass' sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth. Derek Forbes worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his first save of the season.

The T-Bones return home Tuesday to challenge the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in a three game set. RHP Jonathan Krysa (8-6, 2.99) will take on RedHawk righty J.J. Scheving. Tuesday night will be Elvis Night presented by 99.7 KY and Dollar Dog Night presented by KCWE and WIBW.
