Goldeyes Take It In 10, 4-3

08/13/2004 10:52 AM - WINNIPEG, Manitoba - The Kansas City T-Bones fell 4-3 in 10 innings to the Winnipeg Goldeyes at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, Canada, Friday night. Darryl Brinkley's single to left brought in Max Poulin, who had walked, with the winning run for the Goldeyes, wasting a stellar start by T-Bones hurler Matt McClellan.

McClellan worked seven innings for the T-Bones, allowing just two runs on a fifth-inning homer by Andy Larned. The T-Bones righty left the game on top, 3-2, entrusting the rest to John Howerton. It looked as if Howerton would hold off the Goldeyes, until Brinkley hit a two-out grounder under the glove of shortstop Chad Hill to score Pat Scalabrini, who had doubled to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning. Scalabrini's 31st double leads the league.

The T-Bones had a chance to win in the top of the tenth, with runners on first and second and one out, but couldn't take advantage of the opportunity against Goldeye reliever Shayn Holbrook (10-3) who got out of the jam. Holbrook worked the final six innings of the game in scoreless fashion, keeping the T-Bones in check.

Kansas City scored two in the third on a Ray Brown single and Eddie Pearson sac fly to take an early lead, increasing their lead in the fourth when Mike Hass' two-out single to right plated Mike Brown, who had walked and stolen second.

Ryan Hader (0-1) took the loss for the T-Bones, walking Poulin to lead off the bottom of the tenth.

The T-Bones will send Jon McDonald (8-6) to the hill against lefty Steve Murray (6-5) Saturday night. Game time is 7:05 pm, and the game will be broadcast live on www.tbonesbaseball.com and All Comedy Radio 1340.

Attendance was 7,086, many of whom stayed until the end of the contest... The T-Bones return home Tuesday for a three-game set against Fargo... McClellan worked 7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 K.
