KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones announced they have acquired Nick Schwaner from Evansville of the Frontier League in exchange for a player to be determined.

Schwaner, 26, who’s a 6-foot and 220-pound first baseman, has split time this year between Southern Maryland of the Atlantic League and Evansville of the Frontier League. In 25 games (14 with Southern Maryland and 11 with Evansville), Schwaner is batting .218 with 19 hits, including two home runs, and 10 RBIs.

Schwaner (pronounced Sh-wah-ner) played collegiately at the University of New Orleans before Tampa Bay selected him in the 30th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft. He played two seasons in the Tampa Bay organization, reaching single-A Bowling Green in 2011. His best professional season was last year when, playing for Southern Maryland and Evansville, he batted .299 with 118 hits, including 14 home runs, 70 RBIs and 15 stolen bases in 101 games.

Schwaner, who will wear number 28, will be in the starting lineup tonight at first base for Kansas City as the T-Bones begin a four-game series at CommunityAmerica Ballpark against the Wichita Wingnuts.

To make room on the roster for Schwaner, the T-Bones placed pitcher Justin d’Alessandro on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.
