Brown, T-Bones Top Goldeyes, 5-2

08/12/2004 10:45 AM - WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Ray Brown homered in the top of the first and singled in two runs in the top of the eighth to help the T-Bones top the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 5-2, at CanWest Global Park Thursday night. Jonathan Krysa worked seven innings of two-run ball to earn his eighth win of the season.

The T-Bones, who left eleven men on base in the ballgame, got some timely hitting late with Brown's single back up the middle against former T-Bones lefty Clint Marcus. The single scored Rick Prieto and Hiroshi Fujimoto and gave Kansas City a 5-2 lead.

Kansas City led 1-0 on Brown's homer and made it 2-0 in the second on a Chad Hill single to left, which scored Fujimoto, who had doubled. Winnipeg came right back with an Andy Larned single to score Billy Zoffinger, who had tripled earlier in the inning against Krysa.

The T-Bones went up 3-1 on Mike Brown's fifth-inning single, which plated Eddie Pearson, who had walked and stolen second, but Goldeye DH Darryl Brinkley homered to left to cut the T-Bone lead back to one.

Derek Forbes worked a scoreless eighth and John Howerton a scoreless ninth for the T-Bones to earn his third save of the season. Starter Brad Purcell, who worked 6+ innings for the Goldeyes, takes the loss.

The T-Bones and Goldeyes will tee it up for the second game of a four-game set Friday night at 7:05. Matt McClellan (6-4, 4.34) will take the bump for the T-Bones against a TBA Goldeye.

Game Notes: Schaumburg lost to Lincoln, 2-0, and Joliet was idle. As such, the T-Bones are 1 game back in the South and Schaumburg is 2.5 GB... Prieto's hit extended his hitting streak to five games, and he has reached base in the last 22... Prieto has a 15-game road hitting streak... Ray Brown's homer was his 15th... Pearson's stolen base was his 4th, just one short of his career high set back in 1993.
