KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- After winning the previous two matchups, the T-Bones were outdone by the Lincoln Saltdogs, losing Sunday night’s series finale 8-2 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Lincoln starter Zachary Varce allowed no hits and struck out five through his six innings. However, he walked eight T-Bones hitters.

Although the bats weren’t loud for the T-Bones, getting only one hit, the patience was there. As a team, Kansas City walked 14 times in the game. Nick Giarraputo and David Espinosa particularly stood out, walking four and three times, respectively.

The 14 walks set a T-Bones franchise record, breaking the previous record of 12, which was set on July 26, 2004, against Schaumburg.

Kansas City had multiple chances late in the game to cut into Lincoln’s lead. In the seventh and eighth innings the bases were loaded were loaded with no outs. The T-Bones managed only to push across two runs.

Lincoln, on the other hand, had no problem offensively, recording its eight runs on 15 hits. John Gaston had another quality game for the Saltdogs, going 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. On the series, Gaston hit .364 with one home run and 5 RBIs.

Seven of the nine Lincoln starters recorded an RBI. Chris Anderson had the team high in hits with three. Matt Forgatch added two.

The T-Bones will look to get back on track Monday night when they travel to Wichita to face off with the Wingnuts. The first pitch of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
