KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones held their annual Media Day on Monday. The following are a few quotes from the event.

Chris Browne (Vice-President/General Manager)
On off-season changes:
“The biggest change was hiring (manager John Massarelli). The ownership group and I sat down and wanted to find a coach with a history of winning, so we were excited to bring John on board.”

On what the fans should look forward to in 2014:
“Kansas City can look forward to some more fun well done. There will be the nightly promotions and giveaways that fans have come to expect, as well as some new giveaways, too. Mountain Man from Duck Dynasty will be here (June 5) and Jose Canseco will be here (Aug. 3) for a home-run contest. There will be something for everyone at Community America Ballpark this summer.”

On this season’s expectations on the field:
“We’re going to have 22 new players this year. We have a better roster with better athletes. … I’m excited about this year. It’s a new brand of T-Bones baseball here in Kansas City. I’m just excited to see it out on the field.”

John Massarelli (Manager)
On his background:
“I’m excited for the opportunity. (Chris Browne) found me in Ohio and I knew Kansas City was a quality organization so I’m excited to be here…. I’ve had 27 years of professional experience and have managed 13 different teams.”

On this season’s club:
“I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far. It’s been great since I arrived in Kansas City about 10 days ago. Our guys are very athletic and versatile. We’ve got some good characters on and off the field. The early report is good on this team.”

On the team’s offensive outlook:
“I don’t think we have a power guy that will lead the league in home runs, but I think we could have five or six guys in the top ten in home runs.”

On key players:
“Danny Richar and Vladimir Frias will be keys defensively. Their defense up the middle will really help our pitchers out.”

Bubby Williams (Catcher)
On success in professional baseball:
“I’d say putting it all together is the key. Working on hitting, defense and base running, and just improving your game. Team camaraderie is a big part, too. When everybody in the clubhouse is on the same page, it’s fun to be around.”

On this season’s expectations:
“It’s fun to be back here. We all want to work our tails off and win ballgames.”

Rick Zagone (Pitcher)
On differences from last season’s team and looking to future:
“It’s completely different. It’s a whole new group of guys and it’s been great getting to know them. It seemed that the team needed a fresh start from 2013 and we got that. This year should be fun. We have a great place to play and all of our fans will have a fun time.”

Nick Giarraputo (Infielder)
On adjusting to life in Kansas City:
“I’m from California and I played in New Jersey before coming here. Last year I went to spring training with the Chicago White Sox. Unfortunately that didn’t work out, but I’m excited to be here in Kansas City. I like it so far. I’m still getting used to the area. I’ve gotten familiar with the area surrounding the stadium, but I like it so far. It’s a fun place.”

After exhibition games tonight and Tuesday night against Winnipeg, the T-Bones open the 2014 regular season on Thursday, May 15, against Lincoln at 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
