T-Bones owners Adam and John Ehlert caught up with an old friend last week during spring training in Florida, as they got a chance to talk with former Kansas City coach and manager Tim Doherty.

Doherty is in his second year as hitting coach for the Minnesota Twins’ triple-A affiliate in Rochester, N.Y. After serving as a coach since the T-Bones’ inception in 2003, Doherty went on to lead the team to a franchise-best record 16 games over .500 when he took over as manager in 2010. Upon recounting that fun season, Doherty was quick to interject, “I hope you guys shatter that record this year.”

Former T-Bones pitcher -- and former Wichita State Shocker -- Kris Johnson (2011) is in camp with the Twins, also. According to Doherty, Johnson is “having a great camp.”  It looks like Johnson is a lock for a triple-A spot, and has a good chance of making the big-league club as a fifth starter or, at least, spot appearances during the 2014 season.
