Dandy Dozen for T-Bones in 9-2 Win

08/08/2004 10:20 AM - ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Kansas City T-Bones pounded out a dozen hits against four Saint Paul Saint pitchers, translating to nine runs in a 9-2 win in the series opener in front of 6,286 at Midway Stadium Sunday.

Saint starter Jason Verdugo retired the first twelve batters he faced, but allowed a leadoff double to Eddie Pearson to begin the fifth inning. Pearson advanced to third on a Mike Brown single to left and came across the plate on a Cody Nowlin sac fly to center.

Kansas City went up 3-0 in the sixth when Chris LePine reached base on a throwing error by Saints second baseman Justin Hall. LePine went to third on a Rick Prieto ground out. Chad Hill came to the plate and grounded to shortstop Chas Terni, who tried to gun LePine out at home. LePine eluded the tag of catcher Jake Wallis and Hill was safe at first, later to score on a Mike Brown sac fly to make it 3-0.

St. Paul scored single runs in the sixth and seventh inning against starter Jonathan Krysa (7-6), but the T-Bones answered with six runs in the final two innings. The big blows coming on an eighth-inning double to left by Hiroshi Fujimotoand a ninth-inning double to right by Ray Brown.
