KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Trailing since the first, the Kansas City T-Bones rallied in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little too late as the Gary SouthShore RailCats held on for a 5-3 win Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The RailCats jumped on Kansas City starter Shaun Garceau (6-9) in the first inning, when former T-Bone Reid Fronk hit a two-run home run to right with two outs. Gary added another run in the second when Zac Mitchell knocked in Brian Kolb with a base hit.

Kansas City had its chances early against starter Stephen Hiscock (4-2). The T-Bones loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first, but after Justin Bass, who led off the inning with a double, was thrown out at home on a fielder’s choice grounder by Kennard Jones, Trevor Coleman struck out and Luis Rivera grounded into the third out.

Petey Paramore then led off the second inning with one of his two doubles in the game, but was stranded at third. After that, Hiscock got stronger, as he struck out eight and gave up three runs in 8 1/3 innings.

Down 5-1, the T-Bones rallied in the bottom of the ninth, as they scored one run on Paramore’s second double and then another on a sacrifice fly by Felix Molina. But the rally ended as pinch-hitter Steve Yoo struck out with Paramore on second base.

Three Kansas City hitters — Bass, Coleman and Paramore — each had two hits with at least one double.

The T-Bones (40-56) and RailCats (55-40) conclude their series and the T-Bones’ 2013 home schedule Thursday night at 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
