KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The T-Bones spotted Gary SouthShore six runs in the first inning and couldn’t overcome the deficit against a strong pitching performance, and lost to the RailCats, 10-4, Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

During the top of the first, which lasted only 13 minutes, Gary sent 10 batters to the plate and came away with six hits and six runs against Kansas City starter Ethan Cole (0-8). By the time Cole exited after the fourth inning, he had given up eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits.

Although the RailCats had 13 hits, Cole and reliever Keith Picht couldn’t stop Craig Maddox and Brian Kolb, the fifth and sixth hitters in the Gary SouthShore lineup, who had three hits apiece and at least three RBIs each. As part of the four-RBI night for Maddox, he had a two-RBI double in the first and a two-run home run in the sixth.

That was more than enough for RailCats starter Morgan Coombs (6-2), who cruised through 7 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits and four runs. Kansas City had only one hit against Coombs until Trevor Coleman led off the fifth with his fourth home run of the season. Jairo Perez and Luis Rivera homered, also, for the T-Bones.

The T-Bones (40-55) and RailCats (54-40) continue their four-game series Thursday night at 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
