KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Rick Zagone had another strong outing for Kansas City, but one pitch helped give Rockland the lead and an eventual 3-1 win in an interleague game Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Zagone (1-3), who struggled in early starts for the T-Bones, struck out three in the first two innings Wednesday and allowed only three baserunners through three innings. Carlos Rivera changed that by leading off the fourth inning with a first pitch home run to right field for the Boulders from the Can-Am League.

That was the only run that Rockland starter Pat Moran (4-6) needed. Moran, who went 8 innings, worked around jams in both the fourth and fifth. In the fourth, Joey Gathright and Jairo Perez led off with back-to-back singles before Kennard Jones grounded into a double play and Trevor Coleman struck out. Luis Rivera led off the fifth with a base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Felix Molina. Rivera moved to third on a fly out by Brandon Jones, but was stranded there after Anthony Davis ended the inning with a fly out to left.

Kansas City didn’t have another baserunner until the eighth. That’s when, trailing 3-0 after the Boulders scored two in the top of the inning, Molina led off the inning with a single and scored the T-Bones’ lone run on an RBI single by Gathright.

Gathright and Perez each had two hits for the T-Bones.

Zagone, who got his first win for Kansas City last Friday at Winnipeg, gave up only one run, along with seven hits, three walks and three strikeouts in 7 innings Wednesday.

The T-Bones finished with a record of 2-4 this season against teams from the Can-Am League.

The T-Bones (37-53) are off Thursday before starting a three-game series at Fargo-Moorhead on Friday night.
