Prieto Named NL Player of the Week

08/02/2004 9:45 AM - KANSAS CITY – Kansas City centerfielder Rick Prieto was named Northern League Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Prieto batted .654 (17-for-26) with 13 runs scored, three doubles, five triples, and nine RBI’s in seven games last week as the T-Bones went 5-2 against Schaumburg and Gary.

Prieto (.320, 4, 33) singled and doubled in Sunday’s game to extend his season-high hitting streak to 13 games – the longest such streak by any T-Bones player in the two-year history of the Kansas City franchise. Prieto is batting .526 (20-for-38) with five triples, 16 runs scored, and 11 walks during his current streak. He has collected at least one extra base hit in his last four games and leads the league with eight triples – just two shy of the Northern League record.

Prieto, who was named player of the week last year, is also the NL leader with 69 runs scored and 54 walks. His on-base percentage of .443 is the third-best mark in the circuit.
