T-Bones Explode for 11 in Fifth Straight Win

08/01/2004 9:43 AM - Behind seven innings of four-hit baseball from starter Jon McDonald (8-5) and a 4-for-5 performance from first baseman Ray Brown, the Kansas City T-Bones claimed an 11-2 win over the Gary-Southshore Railcats in front of 5,008 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City scored three runs in the second, third, and fourth innings. The second saw Mike Brown single to center to start the frame, and Brown was quickly chased home by a triple to right-center by Cody Nowlin. Phil Thompson's ground out plated Nowlin and Kansas City led 2-0.

In the fourth, a pair of run-scoring hits by Ray Brown and Eddie Pearson staked McDonald to a 4-0 lead. McDonald would allow a bunt single by Anthony Iapoce to lead off the fourth after retiring the minimum number of batters through the first three innings, and Iapoce's single was followed by a Pete DeYoung homer to left-center, his second of the season.

The T-Bones got the runs right back, however. Matt Ceriani hit his third home run of the season with one out in the bottom of the fourth against Gary starter Tony O'Donnell (3-7), and Rick Prieto scored on a wild pitch to give Kansas City a 6-2 lead.

Single runs in the sixth and seventh innings turned the ballgame into a rout, and the T-Bones earned the final margin in the eighth with a Ray Brown solo shot and a Mike Brown two-run job against southpaw reliever Kory Bell.

Tomorrow night, the T-Bones will start against the RailCats at 7:05 pm in the series finale. RHP Greg Bicknell (7-2) will oppose Gary righty Dominic Woody (2-2, 2.11).
