Behind a solid outing by the T-Bones pitchers and the power of Matt Padgett at the plate, Kansas City completed its first sweep of the season in a 5-2 win over Grand Prairie in front of 5,732 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Wednesday night.

Kansas City opened the scoring off Jared Mortensen (3-5) in the third with a single from Devin Goodwin that scored Kennard Jones. Padgett followed up with a two-run home run into the Grand Prairie bullpen that gave the T-Bones a 3-0 lead. It was Padgett’s second homer in two nights and 17th of the season.

“It was good to play with a lead for a change,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “It makes a big difference because guys are more relaxed but we’re able to be more aggressive.”

The AirHogs responded without delay with three singles, which scored Brandon Pinckney and Brian Myrow, but the Grand Prairie deficit couldn’t be made up. Two Grand Prairie errors in the seventh scored one Kansas City run which added to the T-Bones lead.

Making his first start for Kansas City, Ethan Cole left the mound after four innings, giving up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. The Kansas City bullpen held the AirHogs to one run through the final five innings with just two hits. Josh Hildebrand (1-0) went 2 2/3 innings and allowed only one base runner in getting the win.

It was Kansas City’s first sweep since taking three from Grand Prairie during July 26-28, 2012.

Kansas City (22-36) departs for a seven-game road trip beginning with a three-game series with Amarillo (31-23) on Thursday night.
