T-Bones Take Three of Four at Schaumburg

07/30/2004 9:34 AM - SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - Greg Bicknell went the distance in his second consecutive start and Rick Prieto continued his torrid pace as the T-Bones defeated Schaumburg, 5-2, at Alexian Field Thursday night.

Bicknell (7-2) gave up just two hits after the fifth inning and retired the final nine batters he faced. He struck out eight and walked none. Prieto went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, a pair of RBI's, and three walks. He reached base 17 times in 20 plate appearances during the four-game series.

With the win, the T-Bones improved to 7-8 in the second half and 27-36 overall. Schaumburg and Kansas City are tied for third place in the second half standings at a game behind Gary.

The Flyers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. SS Geoff McCallum led off with a single and came around to score after T-Bones right fielder Chris LePine mishandled the ball following a single by RF Nelson Gord.

Kansas City came back with three runs in the top of the third against Flyers starter Derek Bennett. Prieto had a two-RBI triple to right field and 1B Ray Brown added an RBI single. Bennett (0-1) went six innings and took the loss in his first professional start.

CF Eric Cole tripled to left field leading off the fifth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by 2B Billy Malone to bring the Flyers within a run of the T-Bones. Cole had two triples in the game, tying the team record set by Brian Ralph in Sioux City on July 18, 1999.
