07/27/2004 9:12 AM - SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Kansas City T-Bones pounded the Schaumburg Flyers 11-1, scoring three times in the first inning and never looking back in a rout that saw two Flyers position players take the mound.

The Flyers, playoff-bound after winning the Northern League South Division first half title, saw their second half record drop to 6-6 and their overall record fall to 37-23. Kansas City is now 5-7 and 25-35.

Schaumburg will be out of the top spot in the South Division for the first time all season when the night is over. Gary and the Flyers were tied for first with Joliet just a half-game back entering play on Monday. At press time, the RailCats were losing to the JackHammers in Gary.

T-Bones starter Matt McClellan (5-3) worked seven innings and gave up just one run on three hits. Third baseman Chris Weekly tagged him for a solo home run in the first inning. It was Weekly’s 13th homer of the season and the 68th overall for the Flyers, tying the franchise record for most total home runs in a season. Weekly has reached base via a hit, walk or hit by pitch in his last 48 games, an ongoing team record.

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Johnson (1-1) made his first professional start and took the loss, giving up six runs on ten hits. The T-Bones scored five runs in the seventh against right-handed pitcher Jesse Thrasher to extend their lead. Thrasher walked eight batters in 1.2 innings and Flyers pitchers gave up 12 walks for the game.

The series continues tomorrow night at Alexian Field with a first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right handed pitcher Hank Woodman (2-3) will start for the Flyers against right-handed pitcher Jonathan Krysa (5-6).

T-BONES NOTES: McClellan threw just 75 pitches in 7 innings... Eddie Pearson tied a team and league record with two sacrifice flies... Pearson is alone in the league lead with 15 HR and 60 RBI... Rick Prieto reached base five times in the game, with three hits and two walks, scoring three times... Reliever Ryan Hader threw a scoreless eighth for the T-Bones, striking out two, and D.J. Johnson a scoreless ninth, also with 2 K's.
