The Kansas City T-Bones have announced the signings of Felix Molina, Jhonny Montoya, Gaspar Santiago and Jeff Squier.

Molina, a 5-foot-9 and 180-pound infielder from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, has spent the majority of his 12-year professional career with the Minnesota Twins organization, reaching triple-A in 2008. After a season with Houston’s double-A Corpus Christi club, Molina played for independent teams for the past three seasons. He’s a career .268 hitter with 873 hits in 947 games. He has played every defensive position, except pitcher and catcher, during his pro career, and has a .952 career fielding percentage.

“Felix is a really good, intelligent infielder,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “He had some good years in the Twins’ organization, which stresses defensive fundamentals. He gives us a great veteran presence on the infield.”

Montoya, a 5-foot-11 and 185-pound right-handed pitcher from Caracas, Venezuela, has played three seasons of independent baseball, most recently with Washington (Pa.) of the Frontier League. This past winter, he pitched for Los Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League. He went 6-0 with a 2.78 ERA in 13 appearances.

“Jhonny was in camp this year with Lancaster of the Atlantic League, but he was their last cut after they signed a couple former big-league guys,” Hook said. “Their manager, Butch Hobson, is a friend of mine and he recommended Jhonny for us. His fastball command and movement are really good.”

Santiago, a 6-foot-1 and 195-pound left-handed pitcher from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, has spent the last three seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization after being a 28th round selection of the club in the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft. Last season in single-A Salem-Keizer, Santiago appeared in 15 games and had a 1.59 ERA in 22 2/3 innings.

“Santiago has a decent fastball with a really good slider,” said Hook. “I expect him to come in and compete for a bullpen spot.”

Squier, a 6-foot-3 and 190-pound infielder from Sterling, Colo., was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 14th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Mississippi Valley State. He played three seasons in the Rockies organization.

“Squier is a good utility player that I tried to get here last year after the Rockies cut him,” Hook said. “He has good speed and can play all over the field.”

Additionally, the T-Bones announced that they’ve placed pitcher Steve Kent on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. In 2012, Kent went 4-4 with a 4.56 ERA for Kansas City. He appeared in 41 of the T-Bones’ 100 games, striking out 67 while walking only 17. He pitched this year for Australia in the World Baseball Classic. Hook says that Kent indicated he wants to pursue work opportunities near his hometown of Canberra, Australia.
