07/24/2004 2:48 PM - JOLIET, Ill. - This time, it was hard luck and bad luck that sent the T-Bones to a 6-5 loss against the Joliet JackHammers in 12 innings here at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, Ill.

Kansas City started the scoring with three runs in the top of the second. Mike Brown singled to center and advanced to second base on a groundout. Phil Thompson then grounded to shortstop Dan Firlit, who attempted to nail Brown at third but threw the ball away. Brown scored to give the T-Bones the lead.

C.J. Medlin then singled Thompson in, and Rick Prieto plated Medlin to make it 3-0. The T-Bones made it 4-0 with Eddie Pearson's 15th homer of the season, a solo shot in the third, but Joliet struck right back.

Three JackHammer runs against Jonathan Krysa (ND), with the big blow a double down the left field line by Corey Paul, got Joliet within one in the bottom of the third. In the fifth, Ray Brown increased the T-Bones lead to 5-3 with another solo shot against starter Rich Hyde (ND), this one his 12th of the season.

John Howerton worked a scoreless eighth for the T-Bones, setting the stage for D.J. Johnson to come into the ballgame with the T-Bones up 5-3. But Johnson ran into some trouble, walking Matt McCay, who got to third by way of two wild pitches. Jermaine Allensworth walked with two outs to put runners at the corners, and John Lackaff's infield single scored McCay to get Joliet within one. Josh Loggins grounded deep in the hole at short to Thompson, who overthrew second baseman Brown, allowing the tying run to score.

Joliet plated the difference-maker in the bottom of the twelfth when, with runners on second and third and one out, Dan Firlit chopped a ball to a drawn-in Thompson. Thompson misplayed the ball, allowing David Gordon to score and sending the T-Bones home with a loss.
