Ninth-Inning Triple Sinks T-Bones, 5-307/16/2004 2:06 PM - KANSAS CITY Geoff McCallum tripled to the gap in right-center field to push across the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as Schaumburg defeated Kansas City, 5-3, Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Kansas City (2-3, 20-28) and Schaumburg (4-1, 34-17) will face off in the third game of the series Saturday night at 7:05.
Reliever David Viane (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief of T-Bones starter Jonathan Krysa, who allowed three runs in eight innings. Rick Hummel (1-0) got the win for the Flyers. Trailing 3-1 after six and a half innings, the T-Bones rallied with a run in the seventh inning on an RBI-single by Cody Nowlin and tied the game in the eighth when Chris LePine drove in pinch-hitter Phil Thompson with an infield single up the middle. But Schaumburg answered with a rally of its own sparked by a lead-off single by Justin Hendrickson, whos two-run homer in the seventh broke a 1-all tie. Billy Malone reached on a fielders choice and came around to score on McCallums second triple of the year. Schuyler Doakes followed with a single to right field to close out the scoring for the game. Flyers reliever Brett Weber pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the season. Lost in the late-game heroics, was a masterful pitching performance by Schaumburg starter Lyle Prempas, who was perfect through four innings. Prempas retired the first 12 batters he faced struck out five through his first three innings. Eddie Pearson finally broke through for Kansas City with a lead-off homer in the fifth inning. For the game, Prempas allowed just Pearsons solo shot over six innings.
