AMARILLO, Texas -  Kansas City’s early four-run lead evaporated on Tuesday night as the T-Bones lost, 8-7, to the Amarillo Sox at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium in the series opener.

Kansas City took a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Pat Trettel lined a bases loaded single to left that scored all three runners.

After the Sox scored one run in the bottom of the second, Devin Goodwin answered for the T-Bones with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the third, his 14th, giving Kansas City a 5-1 lead.

Brian Grening started for the T-Bones and ended with a no-decision as he pitched 5 1/3, allowing six runs (two earned), on nine hits. He struck out four and didn’t walk any Amarillo batters.

Against Grening, the Sox tied the game in the fifth when they scored three runs on three consecutive two-out singles. Garrett Rau, Adam Buschini and Tim Alberts came up with the singles.

The Sox tacked on another run in the sixth and took a 6-5 lead on a throwing error by Goodwin, but the T-Bones tied it on a Trevor Coleman (5) solo homer to right-center in the top of the eighth.

The loss drops Kansas City back to .500 at 47-47. Game two of the four-game set is slated for a 7:05 start time on Wednesday night. The game can be heard on 1660-AM (the KMBZ Business Channel) or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
