07/15/2004 1:53 PM - KANSAS CITY - Cody Nowlin hit a two-run home run to snap a 2-all tie in the third inning and help fuel a T-Bones offense that scored seven runs in the first four innings en route to a 10-4 win over visiting Schaumburg (34-17, 3-1) Thursday night. Five Kansas City starters had at least two hits in the victory, including Nowlin who drove in three runs on three hits.

The run support was more than enough for T-Bones’ starter Matt McClellan (4-2), who went six innings for his longest outing of the season. The right-hander fanned seven batters and walked none to set a new season high. Phil Thompson, Drew Oksen and John Howerton combined to pitch the final three innings of the game.

Kansas City (22-28, 2-2) wasted little time chasing Flyers’ starter Efrain Silva (1-2), who lasted just 3.2 innings after giving up eight runs on as many hits. Silva walked at least one batter in each of the first four innings and handed out six free-passes in total. He didn’t get much help from his offense either which was held scoreless after the second inning. For Schaumburg it was the team’s first loss of the second half.

Nowlin’s fourth homer of the year followed back-to-back doubles by Ray Brown and Eddie Pearson that started the rally for the T-Bones, who trailed 2-1 after two and a half innings. The rally continued in the following inning as Kansas City sent eight batters to the plate and brought in half of them.

Mike Hass and Rick Prieto drew consecutive walks to ignite the big inning. brought Hass home with a double to left field and moved Prieto to third base. Prieto crossed the plate on a wild pitch and LePine later scored on a ground out by Brown that made the score 7-2. Mike Brown kept the rally going with his first of two hits on the night and crossed the plate on Silva’s second wild pitch of the inning.

Kansas City scored two more runs in the sixth inning before the Flyers added one in the ninth to close out the scoring. The T-Bones will continue their four-game series with the Flyers Friday night beginning at 7:05.

Game Notes: With a single in the first inning, Ray Brown extended his hitting streak to 11 games. It is his longest streak of the season and matches the longest such streak by any T-Bone this year… The T-Bones were 4-for-8 with runners in scoring position through the first 3.2 innings with two doubles, a home run, and six RBI…McClellan’s six innings represented his longest outing since going seven innings for the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League in 2000… T-Bones’ pitchers didn’t allow a walk through the first eight innings of the game.
