Mac Attacks Canaries in 4-1 Win

07/15/2004 1:48 PM - SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A night after scoring 11 runs and slugging 18 hits in an extra inning frenzy, the Birds found runs hard to come by Wednesday afternoon, as they fell to the Kansas City T-Bones 4-1 at the Birdcage. A quality start from Mike Lyons wasn’t enough, as Sioux Falls could not come up with the clutch hit, but still managed to take the series 2-1.

T-Bones starter Jon McDonald held the Canaries in check, going 7 innings, giving up just 1 run while picking up his 6th victory on the year. McDonald struck out eleven to tie the team record set by Jonathan Krysa on June 28th against Joliet. McDonald received all the offense he would need in the 6th inning when outfielder Rick Prieto walked and scored on a double to deep centerfield by Ray Brown. Eddie Pearson then homered over the right-centerfield fence to give the T-Bones a 3-0 lead that they would not relinquish.

Lyons was tagged with the loss, his 4th of the season. The right-hander scattered 8 hits over 8.2 innings while striking out 4.

First Baseman Juan Thomas provided the only run for the Birds when he took McDonald deep to leftfield for his 3rd homerun of the season and second in two games.
