T-Bones Edged in Extra Frames, 11-10

07/14/2004 1:39 PM - SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - After trading big innings early on with Kansas City, the Sioux Falls Canaries came back from a 10-9 deficit in the 10th inning to defeat the T-Bones, 11-10, Tuesday night at the Birdcage. Darin Kinsolving chopped a two-run, bases-loaded single over a drawn in infield off of reliever D.J. Johnson to score Juan Thomas and Glenn Davis and win the game.

Rick Prieto hit his second homer of the season , a solo shot, in the top of the 10th to give the T-Bones a 10-9. Johnson (0-4) took the loss for Kansas City, while Derek Lopez (2-5) picks up the win for the Canaries. Thomas started the bottom of the tenth with a bloop single, followed by a double by Davis. Carlos Pagan was walked to load the bases for Kinsolving.

Recently acquired Mike Brown, who filled in for the injured Chad Hill at second base, had two hits, including a double and his fifth home run of the year and drove in three runs. Shortstop Jack Jones drove in three runs as well and hit his league-leading sixth triple of the season. New pitcher David Viane pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of starter Greg Bicknell, who was chased after allowing eight runs in 2.1 innings.

Kansas City jumped on top 1-0 when Prieto, who had walked, came in to score on a grounder by Eddie Pearson. Sioux Falls tied it up at 1 in the bottom of the inning, and then the pinball machine went on tilt.

Brown homered to center to lead off the second, but Sioux Falls came back with three in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-2.

Brown walked with the bases loaded in the third inning and Jones followed with a bases-clearing triple to put the T-Bones up 6-4. But Thomas and Pagan both homered for the Canaries and Sioux Falls led 8-6 after three.

Viane shut down the Canaries for 2.2 innings and allowed the T-Bones to cut the lead to 8-7 on a double by Brown.

But Sioux Falls made it 9-7 on Pagan's second homer of the game, and the game remained that way until the top of the eighth when Ray Brown's singled home two runs to tie the ball game. Derek Forbes hurled a scoreless eighth for Kansas City and Phil Thompson put up a goose-egg in the ninth, setting the table for Prieto.

Wednesday's 12:04 game pits T-Bone starter Jon McDonald against Canary RHP Mike Lyons. The T-Bones will return home after the game tomorrow for a four-game homestand prior to the All-Star Break.
