10 Questions with ... Bill Sobbe

For 20 seasons, 1984-2003, Bill Sobbe could be found in the bullpen at Kauffman Stadium as the Royals bullpen catcher. There, he worked with some of the club's best pitchers, including Dan Quisenberry and Jeff Montgomery, not to mention the young staff of the mid-1980s. This season marks Sobbe's first with the T-Bones, as manager Kenny Hook brought Sobbe on board as the bench coach shortly before the season. We bring him on board for this week's version of "10 Questions."

1. My hero growing up was...
Bill Sobbe: My dad more than anyone else. He went to work every day and made plenty of sacrifices for our family.

2. Growing up, I wanted to be a…
BS: Baseball player. That was the sport in our house.

3. My favorite sports highlight has been…
BS: I've been at Park Hill High School for 14 years, and since I've been there, our 19 sports have won 10 state in different sports.

4. My favorite movie of all-time is…
BS: "Sleepers."

5. My favorite TV show is…
BS: "Cheers." Right now, I'm a big fan of the "Big Bang Theory." 

6. My favorite band or type of music is…
BS: I'm a 1970s rock guy. I don't really have a favorite; any rock from that era.

7. My favorite type of food is…
BS: Italian

8. The thing I enjoy most about Kansas City is…
BS: The people are pleasant, and you can get around town easily. 

9. My message to parents of young athletes…
BS: Be realistic. The opportunities will be there for them if they're good enough. You want to help provide opportunities when you can, but be realistic.

10. The one person in history I’d love to meet is…
BS: Abraham Lincoln. I'd like to know what he had to go through in the course of action leading up to the Civil War.
