T-Bones win wild one; sweep El Paso

06/20/2012 4:32 PM -

The T-Bones outlasted El Paso 15-11 and completed a three-game sweep at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon. The teams combined for 30 hits and six home runs in the game.

After Kansas City took a 3-0 lead on back-to-back home runs by Brandon Jones and Ray Sadler, El Paso countered during what turned out to be a wild second inning in which the teams combined for 15 runs. In the top of the inning, before the T-Bones recorded an out, the Diablos had pulled to within 3-2. After they took a 4-3 lead, Uriak Marquez gave the Diablos a 7-3 advantage on a three-run home run off of KC starter Nick Singleton. By the time the T-Bones got the final out in the second, the Diablos had totaled seven hits, more than they managed in the entire game on Tuesday.

Kansas City out-paced the Diablos in the bottom of the second. After scoring three runs, cutting El Paso’s lead to 7-6, Sadler blasted another homer, this one of the three-run variety, that put Kansas City up 9-7. The T-Bones added two more runs – eight total in the inning – on a single by Reid Fronk.

“We did a good job of being disciplined at the plate even though we were trailing,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “We’ve been preaching to the guys that they have to be disciplined and get into a hitter’s count when they’re behind. We had really good at-bats today.”

Singleton (4-1) settled down and threw four straight scoreless innings, facing 13 batters, only one above the minimum.

The win lifts the T-Bones to 16-16 on the season. Kansas City begins a four-game series with the Amarillo Sox on Thursday. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling 913-328-5618.
