T-Bones beat Newark 8-1

06/13/2012 6:59 AM - The T-Bones won their second straight game against Newark, 8-1, as a crowd of 10,202 watched at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Solid pitching, including six scoreless innings from newly acquired starter Shaun Garceau, carried Kansas City early before the T-Bones scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth and effectively put the game away.

“To come out and keep our lead, not just sit on that lead but get some insurance runs, that’s something we haven’t done,” said manager Kenny Hook. “We’ve just sat on the lead and tried to hang on the last few games.”

The T-Bones got on the board first when Devin Goodwin blasted a ball over the left field wall in the fourth inning, scoring Justin Bass and giving Kansas City a 2-0 lead. The advantage jumped to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Reid Fronk singled in Goodwin.

Garceau kept the Bears off the board in his time on the mound, allowing three hits and striking out five.

Kansas City scored five more runs in the bottom of the eighth, beginning with a solo home run by Bass that put the T-Bones ahead 4-0. An RBI single by Fronk scored Goodwin, and a bases-loaded walk by Bears reliever Sean Campbell scored Jose Duran, increasing the Kansas City lead to 6-0. Kala Ka’aihue singled in Fronk and Milner, further widening the gap to 8-0.

A single by Matt Tomczyk scored Nick Santomauro and marked the only run of the night for Newark.

The T-Bones and the Bears will face off in the final game of the three-game series at 11:05 Wednesday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The game can be heard live on the KMBZ Business Channel (1660 AM) or at tbonesbaseball.com.
