T-Bones Bust Out With Six in Seventh, Win 9-4

FARGO, N.D. - The Kansas City T-Bones pounded the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks tonight, 9-4, to win the second game of the series. In spite of the loss, Fargo clinched the Northern League Northern Division first half crown.

Kansas City posted a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead on Cody Nowlin’s RBI single. The T-Bones went up 2-0 in the third inning, as Nowlin drilled his third home run of the year. The RedHawks cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning on Brad Mazer’s RBI double that scored Brian Ward. Bryon Jeffcoat tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, his ninth of the season.

The T-Bones broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning, plating six runs to take an 8-2 lead. The onslaught began with four straight walks. The big blow came from Chad Hill’s two-run double. Nowlin added an RBI single, while Jack Jones had a sacrifice fly. Eric Kofler drove in a pair of runs with an RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning to cut the lead to 8-4.

Kansas City starter Jon McDonald (5-3) earned the victory for the T-Bones. He allowed four runs (two earned) on ten hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out two batters and walked three. Fargo-Moorhead starter J.J. Scheving (2-3) pitched well but took the loss. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Scheving struck out five batters and walked three.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Kansas City T-Bones will play the third game of their four-game series on Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo. Tomorrow night's game will be broadcast on 1340 All Comedy Radio.
