T-Bones earn first sweep of season during first road series
Kansas City won all three games against the defending American Association champion Grand Prairie over the weekend, moving to .500 on the season and into third place in the North division.

Thursday: The T-Bones displayed both solid hitting and excellent pitching as they blanked the AirHogs 8-0. Lefty Devin Anderson earned the win by pitching six scoreless innings, but the team’s bats put the game away for good with a five-run eighth inning.

Friday: Kansas City accumulated a record four triples in a 4-3 victory that ended in a win for starter Matt Mitchell and a save by Jake Wiley. Again, offense came to the rescue late for the T-Bones, who scored two of their four runs in the eighth inning.

Saturday: With Brian Grening as the starter, the T-Bones fell behind 3-0 before tying the game 3-3 in the fourth inning. In the seventh inning, Gus Milner doubled, scoring Reid Fronk and giving Kansas City – and Grening - another 4-3 win. Wiley closed out the game with another save, his third of the season.

After taking just one game each from the New Jersey Jackals and the Gary SouthShore RailCats in the opening homestand at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, the first road series proved to be a welcome change of pace for the T-Bones, who are now 5-5 going into their series against the El Paso Diablos, beginning tonight.

Triple threat
Before its first road series, Kansas City had one triple. Through three games against Grand Prairie, the T-Bones accumulated six more. On Thursday both Devin Goodwin and Trevor Coleman hit triples, and on Friday the hits kept coming. Coleman got his second triple of the season, while Jose Duran, Brandon Jones and Reid Fronk each got one of their own. The four-triple game on Friday set a new T-Bones record.

Newcomers making an impact
Hitting a home run in his debut for the T-Bones was just a starting point for Trevor Coleman, the recently acquired catcher who had just two games in CommunityAmerica Ballpark under his belt before going with Kansas City on its first road trip. He hit a triple and scored two runs on Thursday, hit a triple and scored one run on Friday and went 1 for 2 on Saturday with a pair of walks.

Devin Goodwin, another new addition to the T-Bones, tripled, scored, walked and batted in two runs on Thursday. The next game he went 2 for 4 with a run. On Saturday he got a hit, scored one run and batted one in.

Finding ways to get on base
Shortstop Jose Duran still leads the team with 16 hits and a .381 batting average, but other players are contributing in less flashy ways. Of the players who have participated in all 10 games this season, Duran has just the third-highest on-base percentage. The top number belongs to left fielder Justin Bass. Between his 11-for-33 hitting and eight walks, Bass has an OBP of .463, meaning he gets on base nearly every other at bat. Right fielder Reid Fronk has only six hits and a .207 batting average, but since he has walked five times and been hit by pitches seven times, his on-base percentage is .429, the second-highest on the club.

Henry hitting his stride
After getting off to a somewhat slow start, second baseman Sean Henry had a breakout series against Grand Prairie. In Kansas City’s 8-0 win on Thursday, Henry went 3 for 5 with a run and two RBIs, and in the team’s 4-3 win on Friday he went 2 for 4 with a run. One of five members of the team who has played in all 10 games, Henry is now second on the team with 12 hits and has a .279 batting average.

On deck
The T-Bones begin a three-game series at El Paso tonight, before returning to CommunityAmerica Ballpark for a short three-game homestand beginning next Friday against Amarillo. Tickets are available by calling the T-Bones box office at 913-328-5618.
