Johnson Gives T-Bones Consecutive Shutouts Over Pheasants

08/24/2011 9:21 PM -

Kris Johnson (5-3) followed up a four-hit gem by Reid Santos with a six-hit shutout of his own to give the Kansas City T-Bones (45-49) a 5-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Pheasants (40-53) on Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

With 4,821 spectators on hand, Johnson held the Pheasants to just six hits over his nine-innings, four coming in the second and third innings combined. After inducing a double play to end the threat in the third, Johnson faced just one over the minimum through his final six innings with the help of two more twin-killings.

The left-hander threw 19 straight strikes to open the game and pounded the zone with 86 of his 118 total pitches on the night. Johnson surrendered his only walk in the eighth inning while striking out four in the contest.

A three-run home run by Ray Sadler put the T-Bones on the board against Adam Cowart (5-7) in the third. Kala Ka’aihue added a two-run shot in the sixth to chase the right-hander and cap the score at 5-0.

Cowart was charged with five runs on four hits over five and two-thirds innings in the loss.

Sadler now has 91 RBI on the season, just three shy of the franchise single-season record set at 94 by Eddie Pearson during the 2004 campaign. Sadler has six games left in his attempt to surpass that mark.
