T-Bones, RailCats Strike 5-for-1 Deal

08/21/2011 12:02 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Tim Doherty have announced a trade that sends veteran infielder Rico Washington to the Gary SouthShore RailCats in exchange for four players to be named and a future consideration.

Washington, 33, leaves the T-Bones after batting .310/.390/.482 with 12 home runs and 75 RBI over 90 games this season. He has collected multiple hits in 38 of his games this year and has driven in two or more runs in 20 of those 90 contests.

“Gary presented us with two opportunities that we couldn’t pass up,” Doherty said. “On one hand, this gives Rico a chance to pursue his goal of winning a championship in 2011. At the same time, we have the chance to obtain five pieces that can potentially help us make a run at an American Association title in 2012.”

Kansas City enters their Sunday night game against the Amarillo Sox with an elimination number of two with nine games to play. They sit eight back in both the division and wild card races.

“It is very rare to be presented with the opportunity to receive that many pieces in exchange for just one player,” Doherty added. “We feel this will strengthen our club for next season.”

The T-Bones return home on Tuesday, August 23 to welcome the Sioux Falls Pheasants for a four-game series in the final homestand of the regular season. A number of great promotions are planned to cap off the 2011 campaign, so call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com for more information and to secure your seats today!
