Rain, Explorers Outlast T-Bones, 8-3

07/02/2004 9:35 AM - July 2, 2004

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - David Glick retired the first eleven batters he saw for the Sioux City Explorers, and starter Phil Thompson allowed four runs in the first two innings as the Sioux City Explorers beat the T-Bones 8-3 in a game that was delayed an hour and forty minutes due to rain.

Thompson walked Ryan Ruiz to start the bottom of the first. Ruiz stole second and went to third on a Jason Sullivan bunt single to the pitcher Thompson, who looked to third before throwing past the first baseman Ray Brown. Ruiz scored on the play, which was followed by a Desi Wilson double to score Sullivan and a Marcel Longmire double to score Wilson to make it 3-0.

The T-Bones got within 4-2 when Chris LePine grounded into a fielder's choice in the fifth against Glick to score Jack Jones, who had walked, but Scott Beshears of Sioux City hit his first professional home run against Thompson, a three-run homer with one out in the sixth to make it 7-2.

Brown's single in the eighth scored Rick Prieto to close out the T-Bones scoring. Thompson was tagged with the loss, his first as a pro, while Glick picked up the win with eight solid innings in which he struck out seven T-Bones.

Tomorrow night's game will be a 7:05 start, and will be broadcast live on All Comedy Radio 1340 and www.tbonesbaseball.com.
