Kaaihues Walk-Off Single Gives T-Bones Fourth Straight Win07/20/2011 10:24 PM - After a wild pitch tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, Kala Ka’aihue connected with a walk-off single to give the Kansas City T-Bones (30-34) a three-game sweep over the Amarillo Sox (29-35), 9-8, on Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Kansas City opened the scoring in the second inning with a three-run home run by Jeff Hulett off Travis Lawler to make the score 3-0. Amarillo immediately answered in the third with a grand slam by Van Pope off right-hander T.J. Large to take a 4-3 lead. The Sox added three in the fourth, two on a home run by Lee Cruz, to pull ahead 7-3. Large allowed seven runs on 10 hits over four innings but would not factor into the decision. Kansas City added a single run in the sixth and Amarillo scored once against Trent Lare in the top of the eighth to bring the score to 8-4. Lare allowed one run on three hits over four innings of relief. Ka’aihue began the comeback in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run home run and Gerardo Caceres added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to pull the T-Bones within one. Martin Dewald got the first two outs in the top of the ninth before Andy Shipman (2-4) induced a flyout to end the inning. Shipman earned the victory for Kansas City. Amarillo pitchers walked 10 batters and hit two with six of those 12 scoring. The T-Bones have an off-day before heading to Lincoln to play the Saltdogs in a three-game series that opens a seven-game road trip. Kansas City will return on July 29 to play five games in seven days at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. First pitch on Friday night in Lincoln is set for 7:05.
