07/20/2011 10:24 PM -

After a wild pitch tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, Kala Ka’aihue connected with a walk-off single to give the Kansas City T-Bones (30-34) a three-game sweep over the Amarillo Sox (29-35), 9-8, on Wednesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In front of 3,674 spectators, the T-Bones began the bottom of the ninth against Cody Evans (0-1) with a single and two walks to load the bases for Jim Fasano. The Sox got the lead runner on a fielder’s choice groundout before Ka’aihue stepped to the plate with one out. On the third pitch of the at bat, a wild pitch by Evans allowed the tying run to score and pushed runners to second and third. Three pitches later, Ka’aihue singled to right-center for the victory.

Kansas City opened the scoring in the second inning with a three-run home run by Jeff Hulett off Travis Lawler to make the score 3-0. Amarillo immediately answered in the third with a grand slam by Van Pope off right-hander T.J. Large to take a 4-3 lead.

The Sox added three in the fourth, two on a home run by Lee Cruz, to pull ahead 7-3.

Large allowed seven runs on 10 hits over four innings but would not factor into the decision.

Kansas City added a single run in the sixth and Amarillo scored once against Trent Lare in the top of the eighth to bring the score to 8-4. Lare allowed one run on three hits over four innings of relief.

Ka’aihue began the comeback in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run home run and Gerardo Caceres added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to pull the T-Bones within one.

Martin Dewald got the first two outs in the top of the ninth before Andy Shipman (2-4) induced a flyout to end the inning. Shipman earned the victory for Kansas City.

Amarillo pitchers walked 10 batters and hit two with six of those 12 scoring.

The T-Bones have an off-day before heading to Lincoln to play the Saltdogs in a three-game series that opens a seven-game road trip.
