KC T-Bones Beat Gary 3-1; Lincoln Saltdogs Next

06/01/2003 9:19 AM - (June 1, 2003) After scoring a loss and a win in Friday’s game against the Gary Southshore RailCats, the Kansas City T-Bones scored a second win against the Indiana team in game three of this three-game series on Sunday evening.

Played at the RailCats’ home turf, on the US Steel Yard field, T-Bones pitcher Jonathan Krysa had a standout game. Krysa (2-0), who did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, walked three and struck out four. The right-hander blanked the RailCats – who were also shut out on Saturday – for six innings before they scratched out a run with a two-out rally.

The rest of the T-Bones didn’t have such a bad day either. T-Bones’ Rick Prieto and Taber Maier hit back-to-back triples, with Prieto scoring on Maier’s three-bagger and Maier-scoring on an RBI-groundout by Ray Brown. Chad Ehrnsberger then launched a solo home run to left field to put Kansas City ahead 3-0.

RailCats outfielder Bubba Carpenter achieved a milestone in the game, notching his 1,000th career hit with a single to right field in the sixth inning. The Sunday afternoon crowd of 2,866 saluted Carpenter with an ovation, and the ball was saved for posterity.

The T-Bones will next face the Lincoln Saltdogs in a four-game series before they finally return home on Friday, June 6, for the inauguration of their new home, the CommunityAmerica ballpark, where they will take on the Sioux City Explorers in front of a sold-out crowd.
