Mitchell Leads T-Bones to Victory on Saturday Night

06/25/2011 10:21 PM -

Behind eight solid innings from starter Matt Mitchell (1-1, pictured), the Kansas City T-Bones (17-24) defeated the Fort Worth Cats (17-23), 5-1, in game two of the three-game series Saturday night in front of 7,193 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Mitchell allowed just one run in the outing when Brian Fryer singled to begin the sixth and later scored on an RBI groundout by Trent Lockwood. The right-hander scattered nine hits over his eight innings while striking out one and walking two in the victory.

It was just the second time a T-Bones starter has lasted at least eight innings this season.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead against Derek Blacksher (2-5) on an RBI single by Rico Washington in the first inning. Washington drove in the second T-Bones run with a solo home run in the third, his sixth of the season.

After Fort Worth made the score 2-1 in the top of the sixth, an RBI single by Prentice Redman pushed the T-Bones advantage back to two in the bottom of the frame. Blacksher took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits over five and one-thirds innings.

The T-Bones added two more runs in the seventh to cap the score at 5-1. Andy Shipman closed out the game with a scoreless ninth for Kansas City.

The T-Bones go for the series victory in the rubber match on Sunday night as Reid Santos (4-2, 4.64) takes the mound for Kansas City against Wade Mackey (4-1, 4.75) and the Cats. First pitch is set for 5:05. To secure your seats, call 913-328-5618 or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com .
