The Sioux Falls Pheasants (16-23) took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never surrendered the lead as they defeated the Kansas City T-Bones (15-23), 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon.

Jimmy Mojica doubled with one out in the first inning and eventually scored on an RBI single from Ray Sadler to take an early 1-0 lead against Adam Cowart (4-1). Sioux Falls responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on a costly T-Bones error to gain the advantage. Two walks and a single loaded the bases against Kris Johnson (0-2, pictured) to begin the frame before an error allowed the fourth batter, Mark Shorey, to reach and the first run to score. Following a bases-loaded walk to Brandon Sing and a foulout to third, Francisco Leandro reached on a fielder’s choice groundout to force in the third tally.

Johnson surrendered his final run on a solo home run by Henry Contreras in the fourth inning that pushed the score to 4-1. The left-hander struggled with his control on the day, surrendering six walks through six innings in the loss. Johnson was charged with four runs, two earned, on just four hits in the contest.

Kansas City picked up their second run against Cowart in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Rico Washington. Cowart allowed just two runs on nine hits over six innings in the victory.

The Pheasants picked up one run in the seventh against reliever Trent Lare and their final tally in the eighth off Kyle Dahman. Sadler singled to begin the eighth for Kansas City and later scored on an RBI groundout by Aharon Eggleston to wrap up the T-Bones scoring.

Kansas City looks to salvage a split in the four-game series Thursday night as they send left-hander Devin Anderson (2-5, 5.44) to the mound opposite right-hander Brandon Rapoza (1-5, 5.44) and the Pheasants.
