Sing Powers Sioux Falls Past T-Bones in Rain-Shortened Game

06/20/2011 9:31 PM -

Brandon Sing finished three-for-three with five RBI for the Sioux Falls Pheasants (15-22) as they defeated the Kansas City T-Bones (14-22), 9-5, at Sioux Falls Stadium on Monday night. The game was stopped in the middle of the eighth inning as heavy rain moved into the area.

The Pheasants jumped on Matt Mitchell (0-1) in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on four hits to gain a lead they would not relinquish. Sing drove in the first three runs with a double before later scoring on an RBI single from Francisco Leandro.

Kansas City forced in their first run in the second inning, drawing three straight walks from Barry Fowler (1-1) to load the bases with one out before Johnny Bowden was hit by a pitch to make the score 4-1. Jeff Hulett then grounded into a double play to end the threat.

Sing drew a bases-loaded walk to give Sioux Falls a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the second. After an error extended the inning for Kansas City in the third, Ray Sadler pulled the T-Bones within two on a two-run home run, his ninth of the season.

Mitchell surrendered his final run on a solo blast by Gus Milner in the fourth inning as the Pheasants pulled ahead, 6-3. The right-hander left after four innings having surrendered six runs on five hits while walking six and striking out six in his T-Bones debut.

Fowler surrendered a two-run shot to Kala Ka’aihue in the fifth to finish the scoring for Kansas City. In his first start since his release from Winnipeg, the right-hander earned the win for the Pheasants despite allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits over five innings of work.

Steven Stewart entered in the fifth for the T-Bones and was touched for two runs on a home run by former major leaguer Reggie Abercrombie. Another home run, a solo shot by Sing in the sixth inning, capped the score at 9-5 in the sixth.

Sing collected two doubles and a home run in the contest and is now batting .375 on the season. Sadler pushed his league-leading RBI total to 44 with his third-inning blast.

The two teams meet again on Tuesday night in game two of their four-game series as the T-Bones send left-hander Reid Santos (3-2, 4.96) to the mound opposite right-hander Kyle Ruwe (1-1, 3.00). First pitch is set for 7:05. To catch all the action while the team is on the road, listen live on KUDL Radio Bach 1660 AM or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com
