The Sioux City Explorers (15-17) sent 11 batters to the plate in a seven-run fifth inning as they secured a series victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (13-18) in game two of a three-game set with a 9-6 victory on Tuesday night.

Keanon Simon opened the game with a solo home run off Ty Marotz (3-1) to give the T-Bones a quick 1-0 lead. Kansas City added four runs on four hits in the third inning to jump out to a 5-0 advantage. Jimmy Mojica drove in the first two runs of the frame with a double before coming home for the third tally of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Ray Sadler. Dwayne White followed with an RBI double to finish the scoring.

The Explorers began their attack against T.J. Large (2-4) in the third inning, scoring two runs to pull within three, 5-2. After a perfect fourth, Large surrendered a leadoff single in the fifth before collecting two quick outs. Sioux City followed with an RBI double, a walk and a hit batter to load the bases. Large then walked Ryan Priddy to force in the second run of the inning. Cole Lohden took over for Kansas City and immediately walked Mike Murphy to tie the game at five.

The next batter, Dustin Jones, put the game out of reach with a bases-clearing double. An RBI double from Derek Schermerhorn followed to make the score 9-5 and chase Lohden from the game. Trent Lare took over and finished the final three and one-thirds innings for Kansas City.

Large took the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits while walking five in four and two-thirds innings. Marotz surrendered five runs on 12 hits over five innings in the victory. Andrew Snowdon allowed one hit over one and one-thirds scoreless innings to secure his second save of the season.

Kansas City looks to prevent the sweep Wednesday night as they send left-hander Reid Santos (3-2, 5.21) to face former T-Bones closer David Trahan (1-0, 2.10) and the Explorers.
