T-Bones Fall Short of Sweep in Winnipeg, 9-2

06/12/2011 4:16 PM -

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (16-14) scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning as they cruised to a 9-2 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (13-16) on Sunday afternoon to prevent a three-game sweep in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

Aharon Eggleston drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single off Luis Villarreal (2-0) in the top of the first to give Kansas City a quick 1-0 lead. Winnipeg responded in the bottom half, scoring five runs against Kyle Dahman (0-1) for a 5-1 advantage. After a flyout from the first batter of the inning, the next seven Goldeyes all reached on five hits and two walks to gain a lead they would not relinquish.

An error lead to another T-Bones run in the second, but that was all Villarreal would allow as he picked up his second win of the season. The left-hander was charged with two unearned runs on five hits over five and two-thirds innings.

Dahman held Winnipeg at five until the Goldeyes pushed the score to 8-2 in the fourth with three runs on five hits. Mike Rocco took over for Dahman with two outs in the frame and surrendered the final Winnipeg run in the seventh before giving way to Ryan Hook, who got the final five outs of the game for the T-Bones.

Dahman allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits over three and two-thirds innings in the loss. Wes Long paced the offensive attack for Winnipeg, finishing four-for-four with three RBI. Ray Sadler extended his hit streak to 10 games for Kansas City, but snapped a stretch of six straight multi-hit games after going one-for-four.

The loss prevented the first road sweep of the Goldeyes by Kansas City in team history.

The T-Bones head to Sioux City for a three-game series against the Explorers beginning Monday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. To catch all the action while the team is on the road, listen live on KUDL Radio Bach 1660 AM or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
